DOH: Stop asking nurses to pay to work in hospitals

THE Department of Health (DPH) has ordered public hospitals to stop the practice of making registered nurses pay to work as trainees.

DOH Secretary Enrique Ona signed an order last August 22 terminating all nurse training programs in public hospitals for not being consistent with provisions of the law.

DOH said some hospitals promote “nurse volunteerism to justify the collection of training fees.”

News briefing: Durano brothers exchange charges; recall petition filed

Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano filed Monday with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) a petition to recall his brother, Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr.

The recall petition is supported with 31,000 signatures that were gathered in the past three months, Sun.Star Cebu reported today. Nito Durano, along with 10 of the city’s councilors, cited loss of confidence in pushing for the recall. Nito said that the number of signatures is sufficient because Danao City, with its 78,000 voters, only needs 15,000 signatures to initiate a recall election.
