Two days after a fire left an estimated 1,200 people homeless in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City, 3 fires broke out in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue yesterday. Initial estimates place the total property damage in the 3 fires at P370,000.
Several people were injured when a fire razed 7 houses and damaged 3 houses in Sitio Bramans in Barangay Mambaling at 9:16 a.m. yesterday. Two hours earlier, a fire hit Sitio Caimito in Barangay Sambag I.
Barely had the firemen placed the Mambaling fire under control, another blaze broke out in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia in Mandaue City. The fire, reported at 10:15 a.m. burned down a bunkhouse, damaged a van and an auto repair shop and killed a dog and 6 chickens. Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has ordered the re-blocking and road restoration in 3 sitios hit by fire in Barangay Tejero. Rama ordered 8 City Hall offices and 2 councilors to implement these in 3 days.
Rama also asked the fire department to conduct an inventory of all fire hydrants in the city after finding out that there was a fire hydrant 50 meters from the area hit by Saturday’s fire but fire fighters could not use it because it was inside a house.
